Kristi L. Hood

Kristi began her cooking career in Monterey, California in 1980, and by 1982 was Chef and Kitchen Manager of Rocklands, a restaurant Food and Wine magazine reviewed as one of the area’s best. She then moved to Washington DC to work as Pastry Chef at Le Pavillion Restaurant, a four-star restaurant considered to be one of the top ten in the nation. After two years, a stint at Star’s Restaurant in San Francisco before moving to the Quilted Giraffe Restaurant in Manhattan, another four-star restaurant in the top ten list. While there, as Sous and Pastry Chef, she contributed to several cookbooks and developed a reputation for personalized desserts for celebrity clientele.
When the Quilted Giraffe closed in 1992 she took up freelance catering, teaching at Peter Kump’s New York Restaurant School, the New School, and became a Restaurant and Special Events Consultant at Industria Super Studios in Manhattan. During this time, she also worked as a food stylist for the Bronx Zoo and Allure Magazine. While at Industria, she organized events such as the New York opening for the German avante-Garde artist Anselm Kiefer and the Virginia Slims farewell dinner for Martina Navratilova.
Kristi also spent six weeks in Pantelleria, an island east of Sicily, as private chef for Fabrizio Ferri, top fashion Photographer/ Designer and owner of Industria Studios in New York and Milan.
Kristi’s comfortable with planning and executing large weddings, parties, and events, as well as romantic dinners. She has cooked for numerous celebrities. Isabella Rosellini, Madonna, Dustin Hoffman, Ken Folette, and President Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Nancy Reagan are just a few.
She moved on to become head chef of Banister Catering, a full service caterer in Manhattan, planning and executing parties for groups of 4 to 400.
After moving to East Hampton, Kristi opened her own private chef and catering business. She is experienced in a wide variety of ethnic, spa, and vegetarian cooking and is a certified Pastry Chef and Baker. Now as the head chef and owner of the Springs General Store, she practices her culinary artistry on a local yet very lucky East Hampton Community.
